George Soros Gives Progressives A Strong Voice

George Soros has truly lived up to the meaning of his family name. He was born in Budapest Hungary in the early 1930s. His family lineage, according to Wikipedia, is Hungarian Jewish, non-religious and well-to-do. As the prevailing attitude of the time became more tense and antisemitic, the family changed its last name from Schwartz to Soros, meaning either next in line, or designated successor in the native tongue.

Soros credits his father for displaying heroism when he was about age 14. His father succeeded in hiding the identity of some Hungarian Jews who were being sought by the Nazi Party under the command of German leader, Adolph Hitler. Learn more about his profile at businessinsider.com.

Soros moved to England in the late 1940s where he attended the London School of Economics and received his undergraduate and post-graduate degree in philosophy. This aided his later strategy in market investing and in developing the concept of reflexivity in the markets.

Soros began his business career after experiencing a low point in working as a traveling salesman. He secured a position as a clerk with Singer and Friedlander Merchant Bank in London, and soon transferred to the Arbitration Department. In the late 1950s, he moved to the USA and continued his career venture in New York working for F.M. Mayer. His role was similar to that held at Singer and Friedlander Merchant Bank.

During the 1970s, Soros along with some key investment strategists, created a portfolio and hedge funds that exceeded expectation over the succeeding decades. Human Rights And Social Justice Play An Important Role In The Work Of George Soros

There is much to admire in the work of George Soros as a business leader, but what is less well known is the fact he is also one of the top philanthropists in the world who has a long history of fighting for the ideal of the open society; the idea of the open society was first put forward by philosopher and former teacher of George Soros, Karl Popper, who believed access to human rights, social justice, and a democratic government were the key to creating a successful society. George Soros has taken this idea and extended it into his own Open Society Foundations that is working in communities around the world to teach the importance of justice, the past successes of the George Soros established foundation include the release of political prisoners and changes in regimes from all corners of the world.

Unlike many investment specialists George Soros has not lived a life that has been easy; in fact, Soros has lived under the oppression of occupying Nazi forces in his native Hungary before finding his family ruled by the tyranny of a Communist government on Forbes. As a follower of the Jewish faith, George Soros and his family were at constant risk of attack by government forces and led to the decision of the future head of the Soros Investment Fund company to begin a journey as a refugee that pushed him across Europe to London. After training as a financial specialist at the London School of Economics, George Soros set out for the financial industry in London before setting out for New York and one of the most successful careers Wall Street has ever known. Over the course of his career George Soros has explored different political ideas and programs before finally arriving as a major philanthropist when he donated over $3 million in 1987 to various groups on Snopes, eventually his giving reached over $300 million for the year 1993.

For George Soros the need for a strong social justice and human rights agenda has seen him look to affect a range of different groups and ideologies through his work as a donor to a range of activities. 2016 has seen the announcement of a $500 million fund for refugees to aid them in creating their own range of businesses and companies; but Soros has also looked to create a powerful sense of human rights by investing heavily in the media in a bid to encourage a free press on discoverthenetworks.org and sense of free speech that provides a truthful look at the world for people across a range of different media.
