It has been a long time coming for the 67-year-old veteran executive who has steered the Holland manufacturer for quite some time. Following his eventful retirement, Dick DeVos picked the Kellogg School of management MBA graduate and experienced Phil Dolci to head the giant manufacturer. Speaking during the installation of the CEO, Dick thanked Frank Newman for dedication, hard work, and his role in making the company strong. Phil Dolci, a 48-year-old former employee at ConAgra, Dean Foods, and Kraft Foods, is expected to continue the strategic growth of the Windquest group owned subsidiary.
Dick DeVos and wife have a life mission, which involves reformation through charity. The name Windquest Group clicks in the minds of many Americans, and so are the owners. Dick DeVos and his wife Betsy are the people behind the success of the entity, which is a holding company. Under the Windquest Group, the DeVos have vast business interests, which include the recent acquisition of the Coppercraft Distillery. Raised in a business family, Dick has grown to be his own man where his businesses indicate as much. The rich history of entrepreneurship is an identity that also characterizes the DeVos and their immediate family.
The couple’s hand in philanthropy is a factor that is also well known because of their involvement in various charities. Like the larger DeVos family, Dick and Betsy have their philanthropic channel, Dick, and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation. In her position as the chair of the foundation, Betsy has significant input in ensuring that it fulfills its roles. The DeVos Family Foundation have for several years been involved in many charitable activities. For example, Betsy DeVos has been influential in the advancement of the American Education Reform Council and Children First America.
Through its work, the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation mainly focus on catalyzing other organizations and partners. Empowerment primarily emanates from work of these charities that concentrates on disadvantaged children. However, they are intent on enhancing hard work among their beneficiaries rather than relying on charity. As a result, they have and continue making a difference through these and other initiatives. With continued involvement in empowering others, Dick and Betsy DeVos will in many ways remain influential both economically and socially.
A Little Background. : was born in Caracas on February 7, 1986. From her youth her parents have encouraged her with training in voice, piano, dance, and academics. Upon graduation from high school, she studied Business Administration in France, graduating with diplomas in Culinary Arts, Fashion, and Marketing. While a student, she cultivated her interest in music by joining a band and touring cities and familiarizing herself with those involved in the European music community. That vocal music involvement was transformative because it culminated in work with Emilio Estefan Jr., well-known and respected music producer, in 2008.
Background Story. Young people do put on weight and suddenly discover the mirror and the fact that they are no longer the person they used to be. In the process, Norka found a new beginning and a life of hope.
A Song Venture. Estefan with such people as Hermanos Gaitán, Archie Pena, and Luigi Giraldo helped guide Norka in creation of Milagro, a song with Caribbean and Mediterranean flavors, and espousing a positive message that change was possible.
Her Own Words. Latino Show Magazine (October 5, 2012) caught the focus of this young artist in a quote that describes her music emphasis: “We as artists have the great responsibility of bringing a positive message to our fans because the lyrics in our songs transport them to the deepest levels of their emotions. … New rhythms and genres are born, but the essence of the message that we want to transmit to people should never change. With the song Milagro, I want to send a message of hope to those who are overwhelmed by a personal crisis, like the one that I went through, and who hope for a miracle to change their lives. I am the result of several situations which have allowed me to value life even more ….”
Still Singing. Norka continues her music career in 2016 with her recent single release entitled “Tomorrowland.” Emilio Estefan Jr. remains an encourager for this young lady as she continues to develop her music career.

Thor Halvorssen isn’t your normal human rights activist. He works deep into the night (some even call his schedule “vampire hours”). The 39-year-old is also a health nut. He takes a whopping 35 supplements a day, from a sleep-inducing pill to a tree bark concoction that’s designed to prevent human cells from aging.
He’s even made plans to have his body cryogenically preserved when he dies (that’s where a lab puts it into a deep freeze) so that he might one day be able to come back to life. He’s also seen The Shawshank Redemption an estimated twenty times.
But what drives Halvorssen most of all is his fight against human rights abuses around the world. In 2005 he founded the Human Rights Foundation, which is based in New York. Through the foundation, the Venezuela-born activist leads a campaign to highlight abuses around the world, and adamantly stands against dictatorships of any political hue.
He also organizes a major annual event, the Oslo Freedom Forum, in which human rights activists come to speak to crowds of noted philanthropists in the hopes of drawing money and attention to their respective causes.
Lately, Halvorssen has been on a crusade against North Korea, a country that has been gripped by totalitarianism for 70 years. Its people are sealed off from the outside world and have endured harsh famines that have seen an estimated 3.5 million people die from starvation.
A third of North Koreans are said to be undernourished today, and there have even been reports of cannibalism. The regime hacked Sony Pictures last year in an attempt to prevent the release of, “The Interview,” a Seth Rogan film that skewers North Korea’s dictator, Kim Jong-un. Thor Halvorssen has organized North Korean defectors to hack the regime as a reprisal. His team also comes up with ways to send American pop-culture material and democracy promotion goods, which the North Korean regime considers contraband, into the hermetically sealed kingdom.
