Dick and Betsy DeVos, entrepreneurs and philanthropists from Grand Rapids Michigan are getting into the liquor business. They own Windquest Group, which buys shares of companies in exchange for influencing decision making at the firm. They recently purchased the Coppercraft Distillery, in Holland Township. The company has been in business since 2013. It will take some time before they get all the licensing transferred over.
Dick DeVos is from Michigan. He is the son of Richard DeVos, co-founder of Amway, the direct seller of personal and home care products. Dick served as CEO for Amway from 1993-2002, increasing sales and profits substantially. He and his wife work with the Windquest Group, which they have built into a successful holding company for their various interests. Dick served as CEO and President of the Orlando Magic basketball team, when his family acquired the team.
Dick and Betsy still live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and are actively involved with their community, through businesses, philanthropy and politics. They have created many jobs in the area over the years. They are also active donors to local charities and youth programs. Their total donations are near $1.2 billion. Dick works alongside Grand Action, a group interested in improving downtown Grand Rapids. He is involved in school reformation and founded an aviation school in the area. Dick is also an avid sailor and is involved with youth programs relating to sailing.
